Here's a little info from Dan:
An early mentor of mine used to say "paint what you love, paint what you know". It's familiar advice that still rings true today. Another mentor used to say that there is nothing wrong with any subject out there, it's a matter of if I am a poet enough to bring forth its riches. Every painting doesn't have to be of a majestic subject like the Grand Canyon or Niagara Falls. The most meaningful for me are the familiar scenes I pass on a daily basis. In this workshop we will focus on painting familiar rural subject matter like grain bins, silos, cows, fog, and big skies. I love painting this stuff. In this workshop we will take a new subject each day and break it down using a quadrant exercise, where we practice technique as well as the challenging aspects of each reference. Then in the afternoon we will paint the picture together using a step by step approach. Photos and transfer paper will be provided.
